Steve and Cindy Russell have been married for 22 years and are raising five children. In 2000, the Russell family adopted Matt, Chris, and Patricia, who were orphaned siblings to go along with Jessica and Hannah. The Russell’s oldest daughter, Jessica, is a freshman piano major at OU (one of only three freshmen accepted into the program), Matt and Chris are homeschooled, while Patricia and Hannah attend Brink Jr. High in the Moore school district.
While balancing family and career, Steve also found time to earn a master’s degree in history. In 2006, Steve turned down a promotion to full colonel and a fellowship at Queen’s University so that he could settle his family in Oklahoma for good. The Russell family lives in south Oklahoma City and is active at First Southern Baptist Church, Del City, where Steve teaches Sunday School.
Steve’s support for our men and women in uniform has actually intensified since he retired. He is Founder and Chairman of “Vets for Victory” and speaks across the nation encouraging support for our troops. A thought-provoking speaker, writer and media analyst, Steve has been featured on many national and local news programs.

Steve Russell lives our conservative values. As a committed Christian, Steve Russell will fight for pro-life legislation and will stand-up for traditional family values like the sanctity of marriage. Steve knows we need good jobs, and will fight for a government that rewards investment, hard work and entrepreneurship by lowering taxes, encouraging in-state small businesses, reforming our tort system and creating an education system that strives for the best in academic achievement while protecting teachers’ pensions. Steve believes in our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and will be a tough voice when it comes to cracking down on crime.

A fifth generation Oklahoman raised in Del City by hardworking parents, Steve Russell has always excelled and exhibited the common sense traits of a strong work ethic, commitment to his faith and family as well as a responsibility to lead. At Del City High, he was president of his senior class and voted most likely to succeed. Also during high school, Steve was a leader in “Evangelism Explosion” and took it upon himself to go door-to-door sharing his testimony. Steve’s academic success earned him a full four-year Army Scholarship to Ouachita Baptist University where his work ethic and dedication continued to be rewarded as Steve earned his bachelor’s degree and was the top cadet in his class. Most importantly, Steve met Cindy while in college, and they have now been married 22 years and are raising five children.
Steve’s display of courage does not begin just with his distinguished military career. Beginning with nearly dying at birth, Steve had several brushes with death as a child including surviving a ruptured appendix and a tornado that devastated his family’s home. But Steve’s courage was most displayed during his 21 years of service to our country in the US Army.
An Infantry Officer upon graduation from college in 1985, Steve went through the toughest training the Army had to offer, earning his airborne wings and the coveted US Army Ranger qualification. Beginning as a paratrooper in Alaska, Steve quickly rose in ability, commanding every level from platoon to battalion and twice serving as a general’s aide. Steve served seven years overseas and conducted operations in Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo, where his efforts were recognized by the Army and the US State Department. Steve has been decorated with the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device and Oak Leaf Cluster. In 2003, Steve experienced his most remarkable military achievement as a commander of a thousand soldiers, with his unit earning the Valorous Unit Award for its role in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein.
